BBC One’s Make it at Market Appearance!
As you will no doubt be aware, I was lucky to be a featured artist on the fabulously wholesome TV show Make it at Market!
So how did this happen? I received a message on Instagram from a lovely guy called Will, saying that they were planning on having Pyrography as a new category on the show and asking if I would be interested in applying. Of course, my first thought was it was a scam, but I gave him my email and received an application form that looked legit! Now, I’m not a particularly outgoing person, and I hate being in front of camera, so my first inclination was to ignore the email. However, my kids and partner told me I had to apply, so for once in my life I did as I was told!
I sent the application off, not believing for a second I would be accepted. A few weeks later I received a message from a producer, Lauren, inviting me for a telephone interview! Again, I didn’t believe I’d get any further. The very next day I was sat doing a video interview. I still didn’t believe I’d get chosen. But a few weeks later, I received the call from Lauren to say I was going to be on TV! I was elated, anxious, giddy, panicky, stressed and excited all at once!
The next few weeks were a blur, lots of emails, forms, preparation to be done but before I knew it filming was here! And it was the most fun experience of my life. Terrifying obviously, especially at first, but we soon got used to the cameras and the questions being fired at us.They were long days but we had a lot of fun. I was lucky to have a fabulous fellow pyro and mentor to work with. Dom Chinea, the host of the show, really helps to put the contributors at ease and his enthusiasm for everyone’s work is contagious! He helped to make the filming not quite as scary and intimidating! And the fact we were in such a beautiful setting, the gorgeous Waterperry gardens in Oxford, also helped to calm the nerves. II can’t remember anything I said at the time but I suppose that will be part of the fun watching the show. If I can bring myself to watch it!
Series 3 of Make it at Market is showing from 3rd March 2025, with my episode airing on Thursday 20th March at. 3:45pm on BBC One, and will later be shown on IPlayer and Britbox internationally (I’ll keep you posted on dates!)
I hope you enjoy watching and finding out a little more about me and my art
Love,
Chantal
